Always awake for sunrise...

When you move country everything goes on hold. Moving country involves changing routines and embracing the new and the different. It’s a time when you have to find your way again. For me that also means a lot of work and not a lot of time to do any design and photography work, which is why getting into a routine as quick as I can is important.

Relocating to a new country can be used as a transformative experience and an opportunities for personal growth. However, it doesn’t come without challenges.

1. It’s a different culture

One of my favourite things about moving is discovering the cultural differences in the new country. Every country has a way of doing things and it is fun to figure it out and find your way of fitting in or not. There is food to discover and art to explore, a new language to learn etc.It is exciting.

2. New daily routines

You have to be adaptable if you are going to move. Your routines will change, not drastically but they will be different and it can take awhile to get into a new routine and you will need to be patient and flexible. This bit for me is hard because I feel a sense of urgency to get back to getting other things done instead of just surviving the day. Establishing a routine helps cultivate a sense of stability and normalcy amid the chaos.

3. Prioritizing Self-Care

Amid the whirlwind of moving it’s important to make time for activities that help you relax and recharge, whether it’s reading, exploring nature, or practicing mindfulness. Establishing self-care routines in your new environment not only supports your mental health but can also enhance your overall experience as you adapt. Walking is one of my favourite activities and is a great way to explore your new surroundings. It is important to add these routines early on so they don’t get forgotten and left out.

In the end:

Moving to a new country presents both challenges and opportunities. By understanding cultural differences, establishing new daily routines, and maintaining a flexible mindset, you can navigate the transition more smoothly. Build connections, prioritize self-care, and don’t hesitate to incorporate familiar elements into your new life. With time you’ll find a balance that works for you, allowing you to thrive in your new surroundings. Part of my new routine is that I am awake before the sunrise every morning, and having a cup of coffee and watching the day begin is a lovely new addition to my daily routine. Every move is hard but there are positives and it is important to always concentrate more on those than anything else.
