Small challenges ...
Have you ever heard the saying “We overestimate what we can do in a day,, but underestimate what we can do in a year” ?
I think of this saying often and how life would be easier if we let go a little and trust in the process.
Recently I started trying to do small challenges. I was working a lot on making simple digital portrait pieces but didn’t want to stop making repeat patterns. The thing is, making repeat patterns is quite therapeutic, I really enjoy the process. So I thought I would give myself a small challenge to make a daily half brick repeat pattern. It was a lot of fun and took the pressure off of having to think of complete collections as well as making me feel less guilty for doing other creative things.
This is something I used to do a lot with photography, small projects such as a day in the life series, or shadows and light, faceless portraits etc. These challenges really are great, you don’t expect to get much in a day but when you look back at the end it’s lovely to see them altogether.
