A little play

When it comes to photography there are so many rules. I have to admit that I have never been good with rules, I like to find loop holes and ways around things. I believe that rules are important but I like to have freedom to play too.

When I first studied photography I enjoyed learning and practising the rules, I enjoyed seeing the difference that the rules could make. I grew my equipment and tools. I had tack sharp lenses and many megapixels. And then after years of enjoying all the fun photography and travelled offered me I found lensbaby lenses. My first lens was the sol45 and at first I found it very frustrating. It’s funny to me now looking back at that because if I am photographing flowers or portraits the sol45 is now my go to lens. I adore it. All the lensbaby lenses have their own unique way and it takes time to get to know them. I think every lensbaby photographer has their own way of using their lenses too, favourites for different genres. The important thing to remember is to take the time to play and experiment. There will be times that it doesn’t work and then times when your heart sings. But to me the most important thing is that you are enjoying it and having fun.

Lensbaby Sol45 double exposure

This is one of my favourite photographs that I look in 2022. I cannot tell you why I love it so much. I have spent time trying to find it out but I just don’t know. At the end of the day I just like it and that’s good enough for me.

For me the lensbaby products inspire me to remember that the possibilities are endless. I see them as worth the effort, worth the time to learn play and experiment. I have enjoyed letting go of what ‘should’ be and embracing what ‘could’ be.
